Your salary in every pay period

Based on R60,000 a year. Gross is before deductions; take-home is after income tax and a 7.65% social contribution.

Take-home pay at different salaries in South Africa

Same brackets and the same 7.65% social rate as above. The effective rate climbs with income because only the slice inside each bracket is taxed at that bracket's rate.

How It Works

The salary calculator converts any pay frequency to an annual gross, then deducts estimated income tax using the selected country's progressive brackets plus a configurable social contribution percentage.

Net pay = Gross – Income Tax – Social/Pension Contributions.

Note: This is an estimate. Actual take-home pay depends on additional deductions like health insurance, pension opt-in amounts, filing status, and local/state taxes. Always verify with your employer's payslip.

Worked example: if your country's brackets work out to an effective 20% on a $60,000 annual gross, take-home is $48,000 β€” $4,000 per month. The calculator derives that effective rate from your country's actual progressive brackets rather than assuming a flat percentage, which is why two people with different salaries see different effective rates.

Every pay period comes from the same annual figure, divided by how many times that period occurs in a year: 12 months, 26 fortnights, 52 weeks, 260 working days, or 2,080 working hours. Daily and hourly deliberately use working time rather than calendar time β€” a salary divided by 365 is a number nobody is actually paid.
